I think you can use both for nearly the same happenings, you should just care for the grammar. "Weil" is more usual in conversations, but "Dadurch, dass" sounds more profesional, so i would advice this in examen.

Dadurch,dass... is "therefore". and weil is "because" when you use the different subject in your clause,you must use "dass"

"Dadurch" means "therefore" BUT "Dadurch, DASS" you would have to translate to "because" because of the grammatical differences. And this would change the the original "dadurch, dass" to "weil". This is the phenomenon we can experience when translating a text into another language and then translating it back (e.g. by using an online translator). Obviously the original meaning would have changed. So in the end you'll find out that "dadurch, dass" turned out to have the same meaning as "weil" in your sentence. Generally you can translate "Dadurch, dass" to "because", but "weil" cannot always be replaced with "dadurch, dass". Here are some examples why: The usual case: Ich konnte ihn retten, [weil] ich ihn festhielt [correct] Ich konnte ihn retten, [dadurch, dass] ich ihn festhielt.[correct] I could save him, [because] I held on to him. [correct] Your example: [Weil] sie die jüngste ist, hat sie viel mehr Freiheiten. [correct] [Dadurch, dass] sie die jüngste ist, hat sie viel mehr Freiheiten. Ich packe meine Koffer, [dadurch, dass] ich morgen wegfahre. [WRONG! This doesn't make any sense.] Another one: [Weil] ich müde bin, gehe ich ins Bett. [correct] [Because] I am tired, I'm going to bed. [correct] [Dadurch, dass] ich müde bin, gehe ich ins Bett. [WRONG] Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I'll try to explain: "Weil" explains both the motives and the method of an action, whereas "dadurch, dass" only refers to the motive. 1. So in the first example you save somebody and want to explain HOW and WHY you could save him: because you held on to him. 2. In your example that girl has more freedom and you want to explain HOW this is possible and WHY she has it: because she is the youngest. 3. In the third example you're packing your bags. But you don't need to explain HOW you are packing your bag. You just want to explain WHY you are packing your bags: because you go on a trip tomorrow. 4. It's the same with the fourth example: You don't need to explain HOW you are going to bed. Only WHY you're doing it. That's why you can't use "dadurch, dass" here.

They are not the same. weil = because dadurch = by means of
