yellow eyes gleaming with cool lust the english sentence has been translated into German. The original is... "The wolf pads toward her, yellow eyes gleaming with cool lust. Stella Randolph backs slowly toward her narrow virgin's bed until the back of her pudgy knees strike the frame and she collapses upon it." And the German translation is... "Der Wolf trottet auf sie zu, und seine gelben Augen funkeln vor kalter Lust. Stella Randolph bewegt sich rückwärts auf ihr schmales jungfräuliches Bett zu, bis sie mit ihren plumpen Beinen gegen den Rahmen stößt, und lässt sich nach hinten fallen." 1) I thought "Lust" was a false friend?! 2) In English, it is the gleam of his eyes that have cool lust - ie, Stella can imagine his lust by looking at the wolf's eyes, the way in which they glisten. Does "vor kalter Lust" convey the same meaning?

Yes it does. Lust = lust; desire. Where did you get the "false friend" idea from? Ich habe Lust darauf = I want to do that.

Lust in this case means "lust" rather than "desire". "Vor kalter Lust" means analogously it makes she feeling chilly.

Ich finde, "kalte Lust" ist korrekt. "funkeln vor kalter Lust", "mit kalter Lust" und "in kalter Lust" ist möglich.
