"We are hard-wired to need answers." (or "an answer")
When something is "hard-wired," it is naturally in our minds. It is a phrase that comes from computer science, but we often use it to talk about our brains.
In computer science, things that are "hard wired" are usually things we cannot change. Compare this to "soft ware"...things that people change, rewrite, upgrade, and make better.
So, if we are "hard-wired" to need answers, we naturally want to find things out; we are curious naturally. Nature gives us a drive to understand (find answers) to things in our world.
Men and women are "hard-wired" for sexual activity. (They don't have to really "learn" about it. Nature puts sexual desire in them.)
So we have taken the language of computer science and used it in the world of psychology.
