The word "solve" = "finding a solution". Example: One can solve a problem, but one can also solve a puzzle, solve a mathematics equation, etc. One does not usually resolve puzzles or equations. "resolve" = finding a satisfactory solution and making the problem go away. Example: The 2 boys stopped fighting and resolved their differences by talking about their problem with the teacher..

When you solve something, you begin without an answer. You search for a solution. When you resolve something, you already have the solution - you just need to put it into practice. In a kind of way, you "re-solve" (solve again) the problem when it reappears.

solve and resolve (pronounced "rezolve" not "resolve"!) both mean 解決. solve often means 破案 or 解答。 resolve 有化解的意涵
