Is it possible to inculcate oneself through reading? Are some words such as "inculcate" and "enlighten" meant only to act upon others, never upon the self? I'm deeply mortified that you must bear the brunt of reading my seemingly trivial and silly questions, laden with excessive and verbose ramblings sometimes. My sincerest apologies! Your question is a good one. No, you cannot "inculcate yourself". It's perfectly grammatical but it doesn't make any sense. You can inculcate yourself WITH an appreciation for music. You can inculcate an appreciation for music. That is what a music teacher does.
