Writing Exercise 318 – DESCRIBING A MOVIE (PART 2)
I just watched one of the series movies called Ip Man (叶问), starring Donnie Yen. The movie's plot took place in the thirties in Foshan, a city of Chinese martial arts and was about how Yip Man, a Kungfu Master, defeated a Japanese general in a competition with his Wingchun(咏春) martial art.
The beginning of the movie was Yip Man and his family living peacefully in a big house. One day, a Kungfu man, Kim, from the north came to the city, who thought his kungfu was the best in China and challenged all the kungfu masters in the city. Kim enquired about who else was good at playing martial arts and found Yip and challenged him as well. Expectedly, Yip won. Kim not only lost, but he also became a bandit later.
A few years later, the Japanese troops invaded Foshan, Yip’s house was occupied. So Yip and his family were forced to move into an abandoned house. To earn a living, he scrambled for an opportunity to do a laborious job in a plant, where he met some of his old neighbors and the other Kungfu Masters. While they were talking, a team of Japanese army came and recruited kungfu men to compete with their warriors at a fight yard. They claimed the winner would get a sack of rice for reward, which appealed to people. However, some participants not only lost in the competition, but they also lost their lives. This infuriated Yip, who was determined to seek revenge for his compatriots. He defeated ten Japanese in the competition area at the same time. His excellent kungfu skills intrigued a general, Putian, who loved martial arts and wanted to have a competition with Yip. However, Yip was not interested and he did not go to the fight yard anymore. Putian had been looking for him. Some days later, Kim informed Putian where Yip hid. The general sent a team to kidnap him and forced him to go in for it. Finally, Master Yip won.

I just watched the first part of a three part series of a movie called, Ip Man (叶问), starring Donnie Yen. The movie's plot took place during the second Sino-Japanese War in the thirties in Foshan, a Chinese martial arts city, and about how Yip Man, a kung fu master, defeated a Japanese general in a competition using his Wingchun(咏春) style of martial arts. The beginning of the movie was about Yip Man and his family living peacefully in a big house. One day, a fighter from the North named, Kim, who thought his kung fu was the best in China, challenged all the kung fu masters in the city. Kim enquired about who was good at kung fu and found out about Yip Man and challenged him as well. Expectedly, Yip Man won. Kim not only lost, but he also became a bandit later.
A few years later, the Japanese troops invaded Foshan and Yip Man’s house as well. So Yip Man and his family were forced to move into an abandoned house. To earn a living, Yip Man laboured at a job in a plant, where he met some of his old neighbors and the other kung fu masters. While working one day at the plant, a group of Japanese soldiers came and recruited kung fu fighters to compete with their fighters at a yard. They claimed the winner would get a sack of rice as a reward which appealed to the kung fu fighters. However, some participants not only lost in the competition, but they also lost their lives. This infuriated Yip Man, who was determined to seek revenge for his compatriots. He defeated ten Japanese fighters at the yard at the same time. His excellent kung fu skills intrigued a general, Putian, who loved martial arts and wanted to fight Yip Man. However, Yip Man was not interested and he did not go to the yard. He avoided the general for some time. Putian had been looking for him. Some days later, Kim informed Putian where Yip was hiding. The general sent a team to kidnap him and forced him to fight. Finally, Master Yip won a fight between the two.

Writing Exercise 318 – DESCRIBING A MOVIE (PART 2)
I just finished watching one of the Ip Man movies (叶问), starring Donnie Yen. The movie takes place in the thirties in Foshan, a city known for its martial arts and its Kungfu Master, Yip Man, who defeats a Japanese general in a fight by using his Wingchun (咏春) fighting technique. The beginning of the movie shows Yip Man and his family living peacefully in a big house. One day, a Kung Fu fighter from the north, known as Kim, comes to Foshan. Kim thought his Kung Fu was the best in China and challenged all the Kung Fu masters in the city. Kim asked if there was anyone else who was good at Kung Fu. That's when he found out about Yip and challenged him as well. As expected, Yip deafeated Kim. Kim would later become a traitor.
A few years later, Japanese troops invade Foshan and Yip’s house is occupied by Japanese troops. So Yip and his family were forced to move into an abandoned house. To earn a living, Yip scrambled for an opportunity to work in a laborious job at a plant, where
he met some of his old neighbors and the other Kung Fu Masters. One day, as they were talking, a group of men from the Japanese army came and recruited Kung Fu fighters to compete with their own fighters. They claimed that the winner would get a sack of rice as a reward. The prize was very appealing to all of them. However, some participants would not only lose in the competition, but they would also lose their lives, as well. This infuriated Yip, who was determined to seek revenge for his compatriots. He defeated ten Japanese fighters in the fighting arena at the same time.
His excellent Kung Fu skills intrigued a
general, Putian, who loved martial arts and wanted to fight against Yip.Yip, however, was not interested and he didn't want to compete in the arena anymore. Yip then went into hiding. Putian had begun searching for Yip and some days later, Kim informed Putian on Yip's whereabouts. The general sent a team to kidnap him
and forced him to have a have a fight with him. Master Yip then defeats the General Putian in the final, climactic fight of the movie.

Dear Mao,
Your English is very good and I could understand all of what you had written. Just be careful with syntax and grammar in order to be truly fluent. Keep up the good work and try to listen and read more English to get used to more natural syntax and grammar.
By the way, I am curious to know if "Putian" is the Chinese reading of a Japanese name. I would like to see the Mandarin reading for "Putian". Maybe I can translate it into Japanese.
