Hello, my name is Dalexy Montoya Joya. I am a passionate geoscientist with a strong interest in teaching and literature. I hold a major in Geoscience and a minor in Biology from Universidad de los Andes, and I have also completed an oceanography course in the U.S. Besides my scientific career, I enjoy sustainable agriculture and have worked on permaculture and ecotourism projects in Morocco, India, and Spain. I am fluent in Spanish and English, and I am learning Chinese. In my free time, I love reading classic literature and exploring new topics through reading.Me as a Teacher
As a teacher, I strive to create a dynamic and accessible learning environment for all my students. During my time at the University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in Morocco, I taught Spanish to medical students, helping them acquire essential medical terminology. This role allowed me to develop leadership skills and discover my passion for teaching. I believe in active and participatory learning, where students feel motivated and engaged. My experience as a teaching assistant at Universidad de los Andes has provided me with a solid foundation in pedagogical techniques and student assessment.My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are structured yet flexible, tailored to the needs and levels of my students. I use a combination of traditional methods and modern technologies to keep the classes interesting and relevant. For example, I incorporate tools like interactive maps and data analysis software to teach complex concepts in an accessible way. I focus on constant practice and real-world application of the language, using everyday and professional situations to help students use Spanish in various contexts. I thoroughly enjoy working with Dalexy. Dalexy is incredibly patient with me as I struggle to parse through the subtleties of Spanish grammar. She provides notes and corrections that are invaluable feedback for learners. As a fellow teacher, I appreciate her ability to ask guiding questions that prompt the learner to push themselves and try new grammatical structures. I’ve enjoyed my conversations with Dalexy, though the italki classroom experience has been a disappointment for me (technical issues). Dalexy is patient and interesting, and speaks very clearly for my level of Spanish.
