Hi! I'm Jacob, a CELTA qualified teacher of English, Spanish and German.
I'm really passionate about languages and would be happy to help you learn more about them and their cultures (and about yourself!). I studied Arabic and Islam at University in Spain.
I also play the piano and the cello, when I get time. They say music and language are closely linked in the brain, be it having the listening skills to recognise sounds or the memory to remember verb patterns.
Living in Spain, Argentina and Turkey has also allowed me to enjoy (and learn to cook!) some AMAZING food!Me as a Teacher
Being interested and keen is the first step - we learn so much more when we're not subconsciously resisting.
I've taught 3 languages in 3 different countries, from 6 year old children to 60 year old grown ups, so I know the challenges learners face. I think I'm the most patient person on Earth!
I think everyone can learn another language, it's just a case of trying hard and also having the right guidance.My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are dynamic and there is always lots of new content (although hopefully not TOO much) as I think we learn best when we have a challenge. We practice the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) to be as complete a student as possible.
We will do a bit of everything to keep things fresh and not repetitive (very important psychologically).
We can read the news, chat, talk about culture/history/politics/stories and use the language naturally; that way, new language/words for us to learn tends to just pop up! :)My teaching material
