Salvete omnes! My name is Yulia, I studied Latin in Ukraine and in Italy. I hold a master's degree in classical philology and a Ph.D. in general linguistics, and I have over 15 years of experience teaching Latin at university and individual work.
My particular interest is the connection of Latin with the contemporary world, reflections of the language, and different aspects of Ancient Rome's civilization in everyday life.
I'm happy to offer you my lessons and courses and share my passionate interest in Latin per se, as well as an essential and international part of modern languages and cultures.
Me as a Teacher
Knowledge of the theory of linguistics, a deep understanding of the language system, and many years of practical experience teaching languages are the basis of my methodology. I see language as embodying general universal principles of thought in grammar and vocabulary. I am deeply engaged with the methods of teaching Latin and am always searching for the optimal ways of acquiring the language. Success in language learning is a unique combination of a student's mindset and learning style, appropriate methods and materials, and interaction between the student and the teacher.
My lessons & teaching style
I work with all the most common approaches and textbooks, such as the Cambridge Latin Course, the Oxford Latin Course, the traditional grammatical and translation method presented by Wheelock's Latin, and Lingua Latina per se Illustrata and the natural approach by Hans H. Ørberg, Latin for Kids based on Minimus. For advanced students, I offer reading originals lessons, with comments, in particular Seneca, Apuleius, Vulgate, and others.
I am sure there is not only one right way. Depending on your personality, learning style, linguistic background, and purpose, I would love to develop a unique and individual plan and provide you with all the supplementary materials.
