Chinese with Ben

I sometimes wish I had contacted Ben earlier. I'm increasingly realizing how targeted learning for the HSK1-3 (and probably all further levels) differs from what is needed in real life. Ben makes each lesson so practical, lively and relaxed that you almost become addicted to more. There's nothing like having someone who understands their profession!

I love Benfang's classes, they have been key to continue studying and stay motivated. I tend to forget easily the new vocabulary but, after his classes, I surprisingly remember a lot of new words. His method is amazing, the way he explains or introduces new words by relating them to others that I already know. Also using gestures and constantly encouraging me to speak. I just came back from my first trip to China and I feel very happy because I could meet new people, understand and speak much more that I thought! 谢谢 Benfang!

Bēnfàng, you stand out as a vibrant, extraordinary teacher who "makes learning fun," all the while covertly practicing expert pedagogy. You have the meticulously acquired skill of reading a student, using the words that person knows to build confidence, then adding new concepts with facial gestures, hand motions, and props. Lessons with you feel like mini-celebrations! And your explanation of yin and yang with HSK 1 vocabulary was simply masterful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, expertise, and teaching gifts with us.

I’ve completed a few more lessons with Ben老师, and there are many more to come. I’m writing this after watching a Chinese documentary, and once again, I was nearly blown away by the realization of how important the vocabulary and grammar structures we’re using in our classes are, especially when creating stories. The path to fluency is a long one, and even though I still feel like a beginner, I’m not in a hurry. I’m just enjoying the process and the small steps of improvement. Thank you again, Ben, for your endless patience and kindness, and for pushing me beyond my limits.

Ben老师 Is a kind and excellent teacher. I have taken a couple of his comprehensible input lessons and each time I am always nervous right before the lesson because speaking in pure Chinese is such a daunting task, but Ben always makes me feel comfortable. His lessons are very fun and he gives plenty of opportunities to practice each new vocabulary and grammar learned with different sources of materials. He does not overly correct and gives me a chance to struggle and try before jumping in to save me which I appreciate. He speaks almost entirely in chinese and uses a lot of context clues and gestures to make sure that even if I don't exactly know what he is saying, I can get a really good guess. I didnt think I would learn so much by being taught in just the target language, but I feel like I have definitely learned tons!

I initially hesitated to book 60 minute classes (2x30 minutes) as a beginner, fearing I wouldn't be able to concentrate for that long. But... overthinking isn't always helpful! Today, I had my second 60-minute lesson and it was fantastic again! More time, more relaxation. It's so much fun 😃 . Ben is an attentive listener and manages to keep me progressing and wanting more. My vocabulary has increased enormously in the last few days! Since they're all very useful words and expressions, I can immediately integrate them into my daily life. So functional! Interest is the best teacher! Ben connects what I've experienced with what he has planned for the lesson. He's flexible, creative, and incredibly supportive. He has so much teaching experience.
