Hugo does a great job getting me to practice my Portuguese as much as possible. He was able to easily identify which ways I learn best and has structured my lessons as such. Not only do I learn so much but he makes it so fun as well! These classes are a highlight of my week!

I've been taking Portuguese lessons with Hugo for a while now, and have developed from someone who was continually stumbling over basic vocabulary and conjugations into a much more fluent speaker of the language, which I have come to enjoy learning much more in the process. Hugo is an innovative teacher who is not afraid to depart from more mundane and repetitive methods of language learning, which means you always feel involved in your own learning and excited by the content of his classes. It also helps a great deal that he speaks very good English, and so is able to provide you with detailed explanations of the similarities and differences between the two languages, rapidly improving your fluency and ease of use in Portuguese. His deep interest in and knowledge of Brazilian culture means you come to learn a great deal about the nation itself as well, beyond its language. He comes highly recommended?

I enjoy my lessons with Hugo. He is patient with me and good at providing the right amount of feedback to keep the conversation moving forward. We discuss all kinds of topics from our daily life and more. He is very flexible and we have been working together to develop a custom plan for my learning. I would definitely recommend him!

Hugo suggested a methodology to help me get over my anxiety about attempting to speak Portuguese around other people. I’m looking forward to more lessons utilizing his methods.

I’ve had a good few lessons with Hugo now and the difference between my Portuguese when I started with him as opposed to now is absolutely night and day. When I began, I spoke haltingly at best and constantly mixed Spanish words into my speech (Portunhol). Now, we speak exclusively in Portuguese for the entire class, I feel comfortable and fluent speaking the language, and I understand almost everything that’s said. I now feel confident enough to take a trip to Brazil or engage with Brazilians I encounter in my home country in Portuguese. I couldn’t recommend Hugo enough! A superbly attentive, friendly, and knowledgable teacher who goes the extra mile for his students and manages to make every class entertaining and informative in equal measure.
