Hello, this is Qianqian! I was born and raised in China and later moved to the United States for my undergraduate and graduate studies. I studied Marine Biology at the University of California, San Diego, where I focused on coral-algae symbiosis research. Beyond academia, I enjoy scuba diving, singing, and baking. If you share any of these interests or have stories you'd like to share, I’d love to connect and hear from you!

Me as a Teacher

I have over 5 years of language tutoring experience on italki. I have worked with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and varying levels of language proficiency. Beyond this, I have served as a mentor for my university’s academic writing program, helping students enhance their writing skills. I also served as a teaching assistant for marine biology courses, where I led discussions and designed materials to help students review complex course materials. For my qualifications, I took the Standard Mandarin Test and got 二甲 (er jia), a requirement for teaching in China. I also achieved a TOEFL score of 114. I am confident in my ability to help you achieve your language goals!

My lessons & teaching style

For beginners in Chinese, I will start with an introduction to the language. For those looking to improve their Chinese proficiency, I will emphasize practical exercises tailored to your level. If you're preparing for the TOEFL exam, we will begin with an initial discussion to assess your current abilities. From there, I will create a customized study plan to help you achieve a higher score. For those interested in practicing spoken English, I am happy to engage in conversation to help you build confidence and fluency. All courses may include homework assignments to reinforce your learning. I look forward to helping you achieve your language goals!

1 Chinese (Mandarin) lesson

Qianqian is very friendly and helpful, with an easy to understand accent. We just had a conversational lesson and she is a pleasure to talk to, keeps the conversation going well and naturally. I also appreciated that she kept the conversation in Chinese as I wanted, finding new ways to explain things to me in Chinese until I understood. (Although I'm sure she speaks English very well so if you are looking for an English speaking teacher then don't let this put you off). Overall great lesson and can really recommend her.
