My name is Mariko, and I'm from Fukuoka, the southern part of Japan. I grew up in Tokyo since I was 10. I relocated to Switzerland in 2019 and have been teaching Japanese on italki since then. Through lessons, I have had the opportunity to get to know a lot of amazing people from all over the world so far. There were also times when I took a break from italki, but now I'm happy to be back here and looking forward to catching up with my old students and getting to know more new people!
Me as a Teacher
Throughout my experience on italki, I have gained an understanding of the mistakes that Japanese language learners tend to make and the difficulties they face. Additionally, as a German student myself, I am acutely aware of the challenges involved in learning foreign languages. I am a patient teacher and good at creating a relaxed atmosphere during lessons.
My lessons & teaching style
Do you want to start learning Japanese? Have you already started learning Japanese but still lack confidence? Do you want to improve your Japanese through conversation? Then take my lessons! They are for everyone who wants to learn or improve their Japanese. I'm really flexible and would like to make our own lesson what is best for you.
Please feel free to ask me any questions about my lessons!

This was my 60th and last lesson with Mariko, due to her starting on a new career path. We always had fun lessons and I always looked forward to talking with her. She is a great teacher, but most of all a great and kind person. 真梨子先生、本当にありがとうございました!真梨子さんは毎レッスンでは優しくて役立ったのでたくさん学びました。真梨子さんのおかげで僕の日本語のレベルを上げました。ありがとうございました!

Super interesting and fun lesson as always!! Today we talked about different aspects of our cultures and and traditions in Japan and Italy. Learning with Mariko helped me so much, I started as a complete beginner and now I can understand and even speak with more confidence. Thank you so much Mariko!!

Continued chatting about Japanese culture, in particular, Restaurants and Cafes. Mariko writes down vocabulary on a Google Document so I can copy to my Anki after each lesson which is super helpful for remembering words and sentences. Thanks as always Mariko 😊

It is challenging to practice listening skills in different sources such as watching Disney movies dubbed in Japanese. I think Mariko made the best effort and she is pretty proactive to transcribe and write down words I'm not familiar with or vocabulary I haven't been reviewing for a while. Mariko definitely is a very patient person. I would recommend her to learn or improve your Japanese.

Mariko has a vast amount of knowledge, and is able to explain things in an understandable, and fun way. She is patient, and understands the needs of students very well. Besides this, she is a very nice person, and very easy to get along with. Both of these things make her an outstanding teacher, and someone you should learn with.

Having a fun conversation with Mariko is always relaxing. Mariko proactively provided a few vocabulary I have not learned yet. Building new vocabulary is important so I can visit Japan more often.
