Hi, I’m Daniel! I am originally from the UK but now living in snowy Finland. I am a professional teacher with an MA in Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Birmingham University and a CELTA certification. I have been teaching English for 10 years in London, Seville, and Helsinki and absolutely love it! I have taught in a variety of settings and have a lot of experience in teaching 1-1 online. My hobbies include football, music, language learning, traveling, and volunteering. I am also a coach and include some structures of this in my lessons, therefore part of my sessions include making a specific and measurable plan to identify and reach your language goals!Me as a Teacher
I have a broad range of experience with different learning styles, ages, nationalities, and capabilities. Through this I have discovered that everyone can learn, we just need to find the right method for you! I have also realised that people learn best when the subject is meaningful to them. When we're interested in what we're learning, we pay closer attention; we process the information more efficiently and we employ more effective learning strategies. I will therefore create content that is important to you, and that utilises a model where you learn key life skills alongside building your confidence and fluency in communicating in English in real life.My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are tailored to the student’s specific needs, interests and goals. I am a very understanding teacher, who is kind and calm. I am passionate about learning and enjoy active conversation and try and make the lessons fun. The lessons will have good structure, with constructive feedback that checks for understanding to ensure an efficient process of learning.
I have written courses that teach English through topics, such as music, football, personal development, Immigrant integration, philosophy, psychology, coaching, history, and wellbeing. The programme encouraged me to consider how the concepts, theories and methodologies that i encountered during the course of study would be of practical use in my teaching.
Work Experience
2015 - 2021
English Language TeacherI have been teaching one-one and group English language lessons to private clients. I have also been working for a language agency called Galamatias in Helsinki. There, my classes have been with MP’s in the Finnish Parliament, in Universities, and also at the Finnish Transport Agency.
2012 - 2015
English Language TeacherIn London, i worked with The Evelyn Oldfield Unit, a refugee and migrant charity. My duties included:
-To assess the level of spoken English and needs of local people, including the aspiration of those who have not previously had educational and/or employment success.
-To have an overview of all activity relating to English language learning, commissioning publicity materials, running events such as open days and teaching weekly classes.
2011 - 2015
English Language TeacherI worked in London as a self-employed English language teacher. I taught 1-1 lessons, often assisting in IELTS, and over 200 weekly group classes through Meet Up.com in total.
