Hi, I’m Matthew, I am from Miami, Florida in the United States of America. I'm interested in foreign languages and love to travel.
I have spent my entire life with English language learners. I grew up in a home with an American dad and Colombian mom who I witnessed learn English as I grew up, in University I spent a lot of time with international students from all over the world and helped them adjust to life in America, and after I graduated I moved to Istanbul, Türkiye and learned Turkish. My experiences make me uniquely empathetic to you as a learner and allow me to better help you improve your language skills.
Me as a Teacher
I have experience teaching students in a variety of settings and from diverse backgrounds. One on one with a man from Yemen, group classes in a 100% hispanic community, in a classroom setting with students who have mild to severe disabilities, and online with students from Türkiye and Germany.
As I am CELTA trained and certified, I plan my lessons to be student centered and built around an authentic and useful context.
I have personally used Italki as means of learning Turkish, and my favorite teachers were the ones I could call a friend. Our lesson will be more like a chat with a friend, not a classroom where you will be judged.
My lessons & teaching style
To me, language is all about connecting. I want to help you be able to share your heart in English and connect with others in a meaningful way. We will focus on what matters so you are quickly getting opportunities to speak fluidly with other English speakers.
At the end of each lesson, I will give you feedback on your growth and action points so you will always know what to do next.

It's my second lesson with Matthew and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm a somewhat experienced English speaker which is why I usually don't learn new words in a regular conversation. But with Matthew's lesson I learned a whole lot of new words, expressions and idioms because he prepared useful speaking activities for the lesson. They were also really fun! He also gave me tips on how to improve my pronunciation. Thank you very much! :)

Had an amazing lesson with Matthew. He politely corrected and helped improve my speech. He is an extraordinary, very careful and qualified teacher. He always catches my mistakes and corrects them well. I am really thankful to him.
