Hi! I am Fuka. I love traveling and meeting new people, trying new things and learning about different cultures. I always wanted to see the world for as long as I can remember. That was my motivation to learn English. Not to study it, but to USE it. So even though I didn’t get to study English or travel outside of Japan as a child, I loved watching movies and TV shows in English and dreamed of adventuring around the world on my own, using English to make it possible. Now I am a teacher here on italki and also a digital nomad for the past few years. I enjoy both being outdoors and a couch potato, talking with people, taking photos, chasing sunsets, surfing and feeding random cats.
Me as a Teacher
I’m not big on studying per se. I believe we get good at what we are motivated to do. Language learning is not a simple process, and there are lots of ways to do it. If your focus is conversation and practical use, my lessons would be perfect for you. I do have teacher certification as a Japanese instructor. And I can also help explain passages and patterns in English. I will use conversation starters and textbooks to get you speaking, but your italki time is your time. We will talk about issues and do practical exercises that you are interested in.
My lessons & teaching style
- Conversation lessons
‣We can talk about: Movies, Netflix Originals, Travel in Japan and elsewhere, Shopping, Daily Activities, Cooking, Cats, Money and Investing (a little) ... pretty much whatever you can and want to discuss. I will try to keep up.
- Fundamentals: A structured approach to Japanese vocabulary and grammar
‣We will work through thematic vocabulary, the most common grammar patterns, beginning writing and reading skills, and the basics of conversation.
Book a trial lesson and let’s see which course can best improve your Japanese skills.

Fuka-san is a great teacher! She's very friendly and easy to understand. It takes a lot of courage to overcome the fear of messing up on speaking a new language, but she takes everything at whatever speed is most comfortable for you while still trying to encourage you to try things on your own. I definitely recommend :).

This was my 180th lesson with Fuka sensei. Fuka sensei was the first sensei I booked on iTalki and she has always been a massive influence on my Japanese studies. Fuka sensei has helped me enormously ever since our first lesson. Her encouragement, gentle corrections, exemplary conduct, wonderfully cheerful and bright personality is heaven sent. I couldn't ask for anything more from Fuka sensei, she ticks each and every box of what a good sensei should be. I always look forward to each and every one of our lessons as I know they'll always be enjoyable, educational and I'll come out with a humongous smile of satisfaction. 本当にありがとうございました。また木曜日に。

Fuka-san provided a very relaxed experience. Even though I rambled, she was very receptive and didn't interject until she felt it necessary. I look forward to more lessons. Fuka-san is a very cool person!

The amount of tangible progress I’ve made with Fuka-san is such a great feeling. It’s becoming increasingly more challenging, but I feel confident thanks to Fuka-san’s guidance🙌

Just had my first trial lesson with Fuka-San, and it was great! She’s super calm, patient, and creative, making the class feel really comfortable. I liked how she let us chat freely to get to know each other, but also had a clear plan for guiding me toward my goal of mastering Japanese. Her teaching style is the perfect mix of casual and structured, so learning feels fun and relaxed—no pressure, just progress! Looking forward to more lessons with her.
