Hello there! / Hallo allemaal!
I'm Raymond, but you can call me Ray. I was born and raised in Amsterdam and grew up bilingual (Dutch/English). I enjoy engaging in conversations with people worldwide, which is why I chose to teach on italki. Outside of teaching, I spend my time traveling, doing CrossFit, cooking, riding motorcycles, and creating Dutch educational content.
Ik ben Raymond, maar je mag me Ray noemen. Ik ben geboren en getogen in Amsterdam en tweetalig opgegroeid (Nederlands/Engels). Ik geef les op italki omdat ik graag gesprekken voer met mensen wereldwijd. I genuinely looked forward to my weekly lessons with him. His positive approach made speaking Dutch less challenging, reducing grammatical errors, broadening my active vocabulary, and enhancing my readiness for immersion in Dutch society.
Over six months of weekly sessions, I progressed from A2.2/B1.1 to B1.2/B2.1 proficiency. While I had a decent grasp of vocabulary and grammar, I often struggled to put them into practice during speech. Raymond's classes significantly helped make my speech feel more natural and accurate. I now feel much closer to achieving professional fluency in the near future.

Ray is the best teacher I've ever had. His classes are well-structured, and he knows how difficult it might be to learn a new language from scratch. I started to feel progress almost immediately! Moreover, Raymond is not only an experienced tutor but also an interesting person: we can discuss everything - from politics and economics to films and tattoos.

Ray did a great job helping me prepare for the B2 staatsexamen. I worked with him for a month before my exams, and he gave me sample practice exams to complete before our sessions and gave my immediate feedback on my speaking and writing practice exams.
His teaching style is friendly, fun and encouraging, and I never felt afraid to make mistakes. I feel much better prepared for my exams than if I hadn’t had Raymond’s guidance.
