I read last night that "mi viejo/ mi vieja" is used to refer to one's boyfriend/girlfriend, lover, partner, etc. I also know: "novio/novia", "marido", and "mi mujer".

Viejo/Vieja can be different in different countries. But in Mexico, it is largely used when talking about a boyfriend or girfriend, fiance, husband, wife, etc. Every single spanish speaking country has its own slang haha
That is really useful information @Carlos. I read it in a book called "Breaking Out of Beginner's Spanish" by Joseph J. Keenan. When you mentioned how long ago it's been since you'd heard it, I decided to check the copyright in the book. Yep....1994, 21 years old!
Haha yes, that's the case in Mexico, but only for a married couple (Mi viejo = My husband, Mi vieja = My wife). But this is super colloquial and it's not used anymore; when I was a kid it was widely used amongst my family (my parents, uncles, aunts, older cousins, etc.), but that's not the case anymore; in fact I haven't heard it in YEARS, more than 10 ~ 15 years.
Hi,also in Chile are used the words "polola" and "pololo" for calling your partner.
Hello in my country chile you use viejo for calling your father and viejo for calling your mom..
