Can you please explain me the meaning of this sentence? "Writing is less about beckoning the muse than hanging in until the typing becomes writing".

It means that being a writer takes time, hard work and persistence.

 

It's not about 'beckoning the muse' (waiting for artistic inspiration), because you can't just expect inspiration to appear from the gods. There is no divine muse that will make you a writer - it's all down to you. You need to <em>work</em> at being a writer.

 

You just have to 'hang in there' - keep working and keep trying - until the typing (simple words on the page) become actual writing (a article, a short story, a novel, etc that is worth publishing).
