Jenny Wren
Public Interest: #sextou DOES NOT mean "SEX TO YOU" (not for Brazilians)

I saw that the hashtag "#sextou" was trending yesterday and I immediately thought that was weird.

Why did I think it was weird?

Because it was Tuesday. "#Sextou" was originally an adaptation brazilians made with the word "sexta-feira", which means "friday". We added something like a verbal sufix (-tou) to create an informal verb with the word "sexta" (friday). Hence, if you see "sextou!" or "Partiu! #sextou" with a normal picture it means that the person is ready to enjoy his/her friday night and his/her weekend.

Back to yesterday, I thought "well, we do have a national holliday coming this friday. Maybe people are celebrating an early #sextou."

Well, I was wrong.

So, if you see an innocent photo with the tag #sextou, don't embarrass yourself making disrespectful comments (that is happening with some of my friends).

We are not inviting you for sex.

Don't be a pathetic and rude idiot.

Thank you. You're welcome.

LOL your last sentence was hilarious. Here in my topia, I have only heard people being invited for parties and merrymaking.

BTW, you are a good singer. Thanks for putting one in your profile.

Have a great sextou to you all. I mean a great weekend)))

Ana, it took me a few seconds to understand what was going on and then it hit me and I was like "OOOOH".

Yeah! It is totally confusing, Alexandra. I even had a laugh at first. But when I heard that some people were being disrespected because of that I got pissed.

The very first time I saw the word I thought it meant "sexted". Like: sextar: sext, sextou: sexted. I mean it is a little confusing at first.
