Scooties are very common in India as the typical two wheeler meant for girls. It's a latter day avatar of the classic scooter, originally by the Italian companies Lambretta and Vespa.
A scooty is much lighter and has no manual clutch gear mechanism like a scooter, nor does it have a manual kick starter. It just has a push start button and an accelerator. The gearing is automatic.
It is still the preferred vehicle for women, particularly young girls, and about the only thing one can ride with a sari on (not that many do, but it's possible). Young girls use it extensively, something that our eastern and western neighbor countries find very strange.
