Make the E in zhEn and dE as the E in english word hEr. Then, the zh sound is close to (but not so precise as) the J in Jigsaw. Lastly, try pronouncing ZHEN in a flat high pitch because it's the 1st tone, and DE in an unstressed suddenly-ended voice because it's the neuter tone (or the 5th tone, named in Taiwan). So, 真的 (zhen1 de5) may sound as english name Abby regarding the intonation.

the pronunciation of "zh" like the "g" from "genal". "en"="ən"/"ə:n" "de"="də"/"də:"

Hello Justin, "zhen" 's pronunciation is kinda like "jean" in English. But the "ea" from"jean" is E, right? Take the pronunciation of "en" from "end" to instead of E sound. So, the sound of "zhen" is: jen. "de" is a slight ponunciation. You see, "to" from "today" is a slight sound, right? So do "de". Just change "t" to "d". If you have any further questions, I'd be more than happy to help you. Dandan
