"I'm bored out of my head" is an exaggerated way of saying "There's nothing to do", There is nothing entertaining, life is dull, there is no place to go, and no one interesting to talk to. What a boring place".

Another way we say it in America is "I'm bored out of my skull." It means exactly as you guessed; that I have nothing to do and I can't entertain myself right now.

You can say, "I am bored out of my brain" or I am bored stupid/ senseless

I would say I'm "bored out of my mind" and "going stir-crazy" from staying in one place too long with nothing much to do. It happens when you've been cooped up too long in the house because of a long winter or too much rain.
