"To network" is a new verb in the English language that means "to utilize the people you know who have a variety of professions in order to solve problems." For example, my friend who is a carpenter had two teeth knocked out while working. He also has no health insurance. So, in order to help him, I decided to network with my dentist, who is putting an addition onto his office, so that my friend could get his teeth fixed as long as he built the addition for my dentist. Networking is the skill where you are resourceful with the people you know, and you keep phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and business cards of people, so that when your friends need help, you can recommend someone to them who is a specialist at what they need help with. In today's world, we network over the phone, through e-mail, or through social networking sites, or we go to gatherings that are meant to widen our networking base.

Network in this case means to meet new people through other people. So for example, you have a friend and you meet his father, who introduces you to his (the father's) friend, who gives you a job. That is networking well.
