What does "sleep late" mean? Thank you! Seems it can have two meanings: (1) to go to sleep at a late time. (2) oversleep How to distinguish it?

sleep late是等于晚睡。oversleep是睡过头。 我昨晚晚睡。今早睡过头赶不到时间就迟到。I slept late last night and was over slept this morning. I wasn't able to catch up the time and I'm late.

"Sleep late" usually refers to "sleeping in", i.e. waking up later than usual or normal. However, it can also be used to mean "to go to bed late (at night)". If you want to make the difference when you speak or write, always use "to go to (bed/sleep) late" as in "I went to sleep late last night" or "I went to bed late last night" when you really mean "going to bed later than usual". This should do the trick. When other people use the straight phrase "sleep late" without "to go to", you need to rely on the context to figure out the actual meaning. HTH

Actually, "Sleep late" by itself needs a little more context to express the meaning. "I went to sleep late" is often used to mean not going to bed until a late hour. "I slept in late" is used to express being in bed for a long time or to oversleep.

It usually means to oversleep. It's not wrong to say it as in to go to sleep at a late time but it sounds kinda funny. When someone says they slept at a late time they would usually say they stayed up late or went to bed late.
