What is a wide eyed girl? Does wide eyed mean naive, or does it also just refer to physically wide eyes? I've got it from some lyrics and I always thought it just meant, having pretty eyes. But by coincidence I found it in the dictionary translated as naive. So in this text it actually means, naive, ignorant? Something like that? It is an idiom for an innocent girl? FYI, these are the lyrics. EURYTHMICS LYRICS "Wide Eyed Girl" She was a wide eyed girl In a purple dress She could have been good She could have been the best Shy little girl When it came to the test Wow oh... She was a cut above the rest. She was a wide eyed girl With teased up hair She could have had money But she didn't care

To me, it is a relatively common idiom / expression, and means more 'easily impressed' rather than naive, but the meanings are quite similar. The expression comes from the idea of someone, perhaps from the country, coming into a city, and being wide-eyed with amazement at all the new sights and experiences.

Your guess is as good as mine! Line 6 says she's shy, so maybe she's naive as well - we don't know. We do have the expression 'wide-eyed and innocent', but without any further support to suggest naivety, I wouldn't normally presume that that's what 'wide-eyed' means.
