Doubt text - song Shape of you - Ed Sheeran " Hi All, I hope there is someone can help me. I was reading a text of a new Hit "Shape of you - Ed Sheeran " and I stopped at phrase "Me and my friends at the table doing shots". The mean is very easy. I know that to be precede ing- form, so I would have said: "Me and my friends at the table are doing shots" the same "We are doing shots at the table". Maybe I am missing something and I am wrong. thanks a lot. D

If this was proper English, then you would be right. However, sometimes musicians don't always use the correct grammar. They might want to be creative or to help with the fast rhythm they take out some words. Also, in very informal speech, the "to be" before an -ing might be dropped. For example, "How you doing?" instead of saying "How are you doing?"

Yes, you are missing something: Ed Sheeran is singing. I tried singing the lyrics with your versions, and they didn't work. It's pop music, and you are thinking too much about it. :)
