Is this dialogue grammatically correct and natural enough? A: Your english improved a lot. I am astonished and also greatly inspired from your perseverance at learning this language. B: Nope, I think I have a long way to go. I'm just cutting my teeth on it/ I'm just a rookie.

Hi The first sentence should be "inspired by", but otherwise is grammatically correct. The second is correct. Are they 'natural'? Well that's difficult. Firstly, there's a big difference between the two in terms of formality. Sentence 1 is very formal, but the reply is really informal, so as a whole the conversation seems unusual. Secondly, as a teacher I can't imagine saying sentence 1. The praise seems too strong. I don't think it sounds genuine... but that's about the culture of teaching in different countries.

A: Your english improved a lot. I am astonished and also greatly inspired from your perseverance at learning this language. - English is always capitalized. - Use the simple past for completed actions that have no relevance to the present moment. In this context, it would be better to use the present perfect: Your English has improved a lot. - inspired BY is the correct collocation B: Nope, I think I have a long way to go. I'm just cutting my teeth on it/ I'm just a rookie. - I would NOT use either choice to describe language proficiency. - "Cutting [one's] teeth on [something] implies that you grew up as a young child doing the activity. Example: I cut my teeth on hunting squirrels. - "Rookie" is used mostly to describe being new on the job, like a rookie cop. - Instead, I would say, I'm a beginner or I'm a newbie.
