Is this sentence correct? For years, the life and work of Alexander Shervashidze, the Abkhazian artist who lived in Europe, remained little known in Georgia.

It's not incorrect but I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say. It would be better if you had some time references - years from when? And when did he live in Europe? You could model it on something like this: For many years [after his death], the life and work of Alexander Shervashidze, the Abkhazian artist who spent much/most of his life/career in Europe, remained little known in Georgia. The life and work of Alexander Shervashidze, the Abkhazian artist who spent much/most of his life/career in Europe, remained little known in Georgia until many years after his death.
