Meetup with italki members in person

I'm wondering if someone here ever met up with your local member of italki. In my experience, I did meet up with the people who has the similar interest. We had a gathering, watching movie together and talking about how we do our similar hobby. But we did it in group, so even though we never met up before, it's still safe to do.

In July, I had the WONDERFUL experience of having one of my students come to my house to visit me!  She and her husband had a vacation planned to my part of the world long before she became my student, and it just happened that she was going to be an hour from my house visiting a National Park.  They were able to come by for a few hours and have lunch with us.  It was great to meet my student in person - we exchanged gifts of things we had talked about in lessons: she brought me a personal mosquito repeller and I gave her a giant bag of M&Ms and some bacon jerky. (I know it sounds strange, but these are things we had talked about in lessons and were meaningful to us!)  We had an awesome time, and took selfies to remember the event, (you can see them on my Instagram at BeckysAmericanLife)!

Once, I met the guy from the US with whom I had been talking via skype for months. It turned out he was going to study Russian in Vladimir (the city not so far from Moscow). We agreed to meet. Why not? Despite the fact that we had different levels of language knowledge either English or Russian, the time I spent with him I can consider as a big step in learning English. He told me many different facts about the state where he lives in the US, I showed him some museums and palaces in Moscow. I can definitely say it was great. I want to meet some of my language partners in the future. Unfortunately, it is not always possible due to distances and different living expenses in different countries.

@Becky - Just saw the photos, that's pretty cool. And now I want a bag of peanut M&M's.

The Russian friend I've been hanging out with here in Moscow is also one of the long-term friends I've had on italki. We catch up and natter in Italian. :)
