I sometimes struggle with how to translate "kuchiguse" into English myself. We have various words like "verbal tic" and "catchphrase", but they don't seem quite right to me. In my opinion, "pet phrase" is the closest in terms of meaning.
Out of interest, my pet phrase is "shan", a Scottish (or perhaps just an Edinburgh) word. It means something like "unfair" or "cruel". If you come to Edinburgh, be sure to give it a try!
私もときどき「口癖」をどうすれば英語に訳せばいいか悩んでいます。「verbal tic」とか「catchphrase」とかいろいろありますが、やっぱり何かが違うような・・・。あくまで私の考えだけですが、最も意味が近いのは「pet phrase」だと思います。
ところで私の口癖は「shan」というスコットランド(というかエジンバラだけかもしれません)の言葉です。「不公平」や「酷い」というような意味があります。エジンバラにきたら、是非使ってみてください!
