"Out upon her for a kitchen-maid" what does this phrase mean? "those who eat food must earn it. Out upon her for a kitchen-maid!" They took away her pretty dresses, and put on her an old grey kirtle, and gave her wooden shoes to wear. "

It means: reduce her status to that of a kitchen maid. This sounds like the story of Cinderella 🤔....

Not exactly sure, but, based on context, it sounds like somebody’s about to get demoted. She may have been once with wealth (able to afford pretty dresses) and then had it all taken away (wooden shoes). It reminds me of the 90’s movie “A Little Princess”. Great movie!

Native speaker here - - - it doesn't seem like normal English. Maybe it's something archaic.
