This pair of shoes is nice. This pair of shoes are nice. Could someone help to tell which one is correct? Thank you very much!

"This pair of shoes is nice" ("pair" is the subject of the sentence and is singular, so you use "is"). However sometimes the grammar isn't so strict e.g. "The majority of people is in favour" is grammatically correct but it is very common now to hear "The majority of people are in favour."
