out-dated
It really means it's been around for a long time and nobody is interested any more.

old - not new, worn out, out of date, not in style
hat - article of clothing worn on your head for either fashion or to keep warm

It means out-of-date or something that is so familiar that no one is interested in it any more.
"Your excuses are old hat!" (I've heard them all before)
"Those singers are old hat" (They all sound the same as other singers, and we want to hear something different).
