If we hadn't taken the same train, we would never have met - would have never met. I know that the adverb 'never'is placed after the first verb when there is more than one verb, so it should be 'would never have met' but 'would have never met' sounds better to me. Are both possible? Native speakers help me out please! Thanks :)

Both are perfectly acceptable.

We say both

I prefer the first one "never have met". Because 'never' is modifying the phrase 'have met', I say put 'never' before both words not between them.

The first sentence is correct. The second sentence is acceptable but more clumsy to use.
