Difference between recipient and addressee Can these two words be used as an instead to each other? Thanks!

Not really. The address is the person the message is meant for. The recipient is the person who actually receives the message. A message can be addressed to one person, but be received by someone else. So in this case, the addressee and recipient can be different people.
