ملك It's a derivative of "ملكية" which means ownership. ¨ You owe it. عند Means ¨Have¨, not necessary to owe that ¨thing¨, but still having it. You may owe it.

عنده بيت He has a house يملك بيت He owns a house That is basically the difference between both, but the 2 sentences refer to the same in this case . Idiomatically you can not exchange them sometimes as in : عنده حق He is right You can not interchange it with يملك حق
