What's the difference between "partner" and"counterpart", if any? For instance, are they intechangeable in such sentences: she is my counterpart in the IT business? She is my partner in this project? Can you give some more examples? Thanks in advance!

Your partner would be working on the same project as you. Your counterpart would hold the same position on a different project or working on a similar project for another company. Your counterpart could also be working for another company and be contributing to your project. As long as you hold the same or a similar position, you are counterparts but it would not be used to describe two people on the same team.
