Is there any difference in meaning between "crass" and "careless"? Is there any difference in meaning between "crass" and "careless" or are they just synonyms?

"Crass" suggests something vulgar. "Careless" suggests neglect. Check your dictionary again, and tell us if you're still confused. These are very different words.
