Both have the same meaning. "There exists" is more formal. It is especially used in mathematical axioms, proofs etc. There exists a bijection of every odd number to an even number.

The verb 'exist' has a meaning about existence so 'there is/are' is a pattern which you can use without a verb like exist for existence.

Nobody says "there exists". Say "there is" or "there are" Laurence
