In order to improve your memory and remember words you can follow 2 methods. First is the repetition-based method, where you learn words by writing them several times or saying them repeatedly until you remember them all. If you patiently follow the process, you will see your vocabulary extended very well. Secondly, you also need have to have a notebook with your own note-taking rules. Each time you log onto Italki, note down any new words in this Answers section. The only problem is whether you want a rich vocabulary or not. Any good plan should answer the four following questions. Firstly, how many words will you learn a week: 5, 10, 5 or more? Secondly, when will you learn them? At a fixed time every other morning or anytime you feel like learning? This is what I personally recommend . Thirdly, how often will you review what you have learnt: once a week, once a month or before a test ? Finally, what areas will you focus on: sports, music, games or sciences? The answers may vary a great deal from one person to another depending on memory, schedules and interest. Otherwise, your study results won't be as you expected. You can gain a big vocabulary and improve your English by simply by determining what field of words to learn, making a plan of learning, choosing a learning method and regularly practising your plan and method. Although it is up to you, daily vocab learning is better than weekly and weekly is better than monthly.Good luck.

Hello Hélène, As Marie-Hélène said you have to "repeat" the word. You have to expose yourself to the words you learn often enough for you to memorize. You will notice that a word once learned by first reading it somewhere, writing it down once or twice could be easily forgotten or when some words would be memorized some others wouldn't. The key to memorizing new words is to see and write the words again and again and there are some means to achieve that: - Writing down sentences where you use the word in different contexts. Associating the word with contexts will help you remember it. Listing the words you learn in different categories, like words connected to working place , words used to describe leisure time in general ,greetings etc. Write comprehension texts about a certain subject applying a certain category of words; for example talk about your job, its advantages and disadvantages and use 'the working place' vocabulary . You will be practicing these words in the proper context. Write and read what you have written several times. This helps you memorize the words of that category. - Read in general , any text will probably include many of the new vocabulary you have acquired. So being exposed to the words while reading help remembering them too. - Chat with native speakers and use the words you have learned recently. Open subjects where you could use this vocabulary. Good luck:)

The best way to remember new vocabulary is to repeat the word few time and then write it down to help your visual memory, then use the new word in different sentences...
