What's the meaning of "knuckles" in "We gotta jump them knuckles" in this movie, polar express? https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/e8581dc1-b160-45c2-b62e-ea11c43baac0 Man: Wake up, kid! There's no sleepwalking on the polar express. We gotta jump them **knuckles**. Come on, flip my shoulders. grab my lily. (then the boy reaches out to hold his hand to get on the man's shoulder.) - This scene is from the movie, The Polar Express, and a man and a boy are standing on (the top of) a riding train, trying to move forward amidst raging snow. I tried to find the meaning of knuckles that suits here but I only got knuckles as in knuckle of fingers. What does the phrase mean in this context? (I also don't get "lily" here so it'd be great if you could help me with that as well. Why referring to the man's hand(I guess) lily?)

To be honest I think its just some weird slang or regional expressionims. The average English speaker doesn't use or understand these words in these contexts. The character is portrayed to be a stereotypical tramp (homeless traveler) of some past era. Movies sometimes intentionally place weird language within to give identity to certain characters.

If they are on the roof of a train, is it possible that they are referring to ventilators on the roof of the train? On some trains they stick up above the roof so you have to go over them to move along the roof.

The "knuckle" is the connecting piece between each part of the train. It is the metal mechanism that interlocks the two train cars. The "lily" is his hand, and I believe it is "hobo-speak", which is a type of slang for a group called hobos. The character talking was a hobo. Hobos were a group that would "hitch a ride" on trains.
