while "via" also mean "through", I would just like to add relevant information that you can also use the preposition "thru". thus: 'I've confirmed with him thru SMS' :)

Hello Shirely, They both refer to the same meaning ,yet "via" is more likely to be used in formal correspondence then in daily speech.

via has the same meaning with through. so they are right.
