Our definition of beauty always includes two aspects: inner beauty which refers to a person's character, wisdom, and other internal aspects of the good qualities; outer beauty which refers to attractiveness of a person's appearance and features. It is better to have both, but inner beauty always comes first before outer beauty. I fully agree with this value on beauty, because outer beauty will disappear with age and we may not able to change it, inner beauty is fair to everyone and everyone can work on to have it. Inner beauty's definition has never changed too much in Chinese culture: filial piety, integrity, being selfless, showing kindness... Outer beauty's definition has changed a lot during these years, people used to think girls that white-skinned, thin, showing female weakness are the mainstream beauties. But now, I feel the definition of beauty is more and more diversified: being eccentric can be one kind of beauty; having muscle lines and tanned skin can be one kind of beauty; being gender-less can be kind of beauty... More and more young people define their own beauty, and they get support from others because they can be real self bravely.
