My name is Holliness Julai from Kenya it's not until 5 years ago that I discovered I was language enthusiast. Being from Kenya I grew up speaking 3 languages: my tribal language (Taita), Swahili and English. Moving to Algeria for my bachelors degree and being exposed to a new culture and language, brought out the love I never knew I had for languages. I am self taught in almost all the languages I currently speak, that is French, Portuguese and Arabic. African languages are an area of great interest to me, as a Bantu speaker it is always amazing to see how I and other Bantu speakers who aren't necessarily Swahili speakers are able to understand one another.
Moi en tant que professeur
I teach English, as a community tutor where I live, to young kids and adolescents. It is amazing to see how young minds can maneuver the winds of learning new a language with grace. As much as I don't have much experience teaching adults, I believe that adult minds have the advantage of already mastering at least one language. Having spoken a language for at least 2 decades comes with experience and knowing language structure. Adults are able to learn with what I can call language intuition something that young learners do not have due to lack of experience in life. I encourage everyone to learn a language no matter their stage in life.
Mes leçons et ma méthode d'enseignement
I describe my teaching style as unconventional. My goal is for the learner to be able to understand and express themselves at least 8 weeks into learning. In my own experience the best way of learning a language is to immerse oneself in an environment where this language is spoken whether one is able to understand at that moment or not. This means having conversations and exposing oneself to content done in the concerned language eg music. In my journey of learning new languages I have observed 3 stages starting by the early stage, where the prospect of learning a new language is exciting and things seem easy. Stage 2 frustration and when one overcomes this gradually they enter into mastery.
