À propos de moi
Professeur italki depuis le 10 May 2017
Sujets d'intérêtMusiqueFilmsLecture
I was born in a small city called “Bolu” in Turkey. I lived there for 19 years. After high school, I started med school in Konya. I lived there for 3 years and then transferred to another university in Ankara. After 4 years of med school I had to leave it for a number of reasons and, in 2017, I started studying Software Engineering in Karadeniz Technical University.
I like reading books, listening to music, and I love TV series and movies. I have watched so many TV series. Actually (In fact) that’s how I learned English. Thanks to that my English vocabulary is very good. I know what most words mean and how to pronounce them but, from time to time, I forget how to spell them.
Moi en tant que professeur
I’ve been teaching Turkish for a couple of years now. Being a teacher was difficult for me when I first began. I wasn’t sure what to do and how to do it. After a couple lessons with--amazingly understanding--students I’ve become a really good teacher. I have to say, I didn't expect being a teacher would make me feel so good. Seeing my students improvements means so much to me.
Several of my students have come to Turkey, and listening to their experiences here (in our country and with our people) has just made me so happy. Encouraging language learners is the hardest part of teaching. Learning words, spelling, reading, and listening are easy. “I believe so” would be more accurate statement.
Mes leçons et ma méthode d'enseignement
My first couple of lessons with a new student are more and less are the same. First I want to get to know my students and tell them a little about myself. Then I will explain my methods. The most challenging thing in my first lesson is going to be: learning and memorizing a few sentences and phrases. Those sentences and phrases are really important because I will use them frequently in my lessons.
I give my students homework assignments and I expect them to do their homework. At the beginning, this will be writing sentences, then reading - listening, and after couple lessons writing. As my students improve, I will change the content and difficulty of the lessons and homework.

Okan is the absolute best. He is great to talk to, intelligent and eloquent and very good at explaining difficult concepts. I have advanced a lot with him and will be having lessons for years to come.

I've been studying Turkish with Okan for about 2 years now and in that time my Turkish has gone from extremely basic to nearly fluent. I am regularly having conversations with native speakers and understanding the Turkish films and TV shows that I am watching.
Getting to this point has been hard work, but Okan has truly made the experience more fun, interesting, and challenging.
