tl;dr: I wholeheartedly recommend Narita-sensei. It has been now over a year since I started weekly sessions with Narita-sensei. Like other students I have nothing but good things to write. Back in 2020 I didn't know what to do with my Japanese self-studies as beginner level courses felt a tad too basic (even though my level of comprehension and language production was low) but speaking without lots of support wasn't going to work. I found myself in a tight spot and didn't know how to crawl out of it. Flexibility, usage of vocabulary lists and great attitude were what initially stood up with Narita-sensei, so I kept booking more lessons. Wow, it has been a crazy journey. I know this feedback must read like a cheesy internet fake ad, but my confidence (in speaking and understanding spoken and written Japanese) has skyrocketed. If you are looking for a teacher who can adapt and have good time with, while actually learning Japanese, look no further. 頑張ればできるようになります！成田先生誠にありがとうございました！

From Zero to N3 in 2 years! I would highly recommend Narita-san to anyone who is serious about learning Japanese. I jumped into this water without knowing how to swim. Now, I’m navigating the boundless ocean of Japanese culture with ease (rakugo, ranobe, kaidan banashi, “I am a cat” etc.). Narita-san is a type of coach who won’t obstruct you when you are pushing the limits. And yet, he will never push you to make you feel uncomfortable. He will assist you from the rear seat while you are driving. He is listening to you attentively. Then, he immediately steps forward when he feels like you need a piece of advice. Be it hinting the reading, translating an unknown word, explaining the meaning. To me, this is what a true tutor should be like. Narita-san has an amazing ability to feel his student’s needs. His ability to adapt his tutoring to the student’s current skills and abilities is indeed AAA. I’m very happy to have Narita-san as my Japanese teacher. I see my success as guaranteed.

Narita sensei is a remarkable teacher. I have worked with him for some two years now. Well over a hundred lessons. His enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement are legendary. If it's basic or higher grammar, expressions, or vocabulary, he is a professional teacher. I build my lessons around conversations, so my learning comes from things I like, such as history, politics, and culture. If you like food, travel, music, business, or movies Narita sensei can do that too, of course. I'm really interested in current issues like science fiction and philosophy, social theory and critique, mythology, religion, and politics. We've discussed immigration, racism and discrimination, class society, political leaders and parties, art, German and French philosophers, and Japanese writers and thinkers. I say things in my best Japanese (or what I want to say); he expands or clarifies how a Japanese would say it. It's great. We talk and he makes detailed notes for me. Like a good friend.

He was very understanding of my situation in not knowing much of the language yet and provided me with much information and excitement to learn!
