Yan 🇧🇷

Australian student learning Portuguese (no experience previously, none at all). Yan is a fantastic teacher, he comes extremely prepared to the lessons and takes on advice with what I want to learn as I’m travelling to Brazil. Yan understands the Aussie accent which is something I thought would be a huge issue with learning. Highly recommend if you are Aussie. I have had 20 lessons (weekly lesson) and feeling very comfortable with traveling to Brazil and using basic communication. Only advice I have would be to try and book 2 lessons a week and put stickers around the house to remind you to say that item. Thanks Yan!

Yan has a natural gift for teaching, and a warm and encouraging personality to go with it. I felt comfortable and supported from the very beginning, which was important for me given my foundational level. I also found Yan to be very well prepared and structured in his lessons preparation. He has an ideal system for note taking during the lesson, and in doing so preparing homework to study for next time. I'm extremely grateful to have found Yan as my teacher in Portuguese at this early stage in my development, and I'm excited to make this review for posterity, so that when I make my next review after 50-100 lessons, I can confirm the progression I made from my current A1 level! I am convinced that I will have made progress I could only have dreamed of (no pressure, Yan!) I guarantee that you will be delighted with your choice of teacher, if you trust Yan in your language learning journey. Thanks so much once again, I'm very grateful!!

Yan é o melhor professor de idiomas com quem já pratiquei! E uma pessoa incrível. Ele realmente tem talento para criar um ambiente de prática hospitaleiro e descontraído. Com ele, desde a primeira aula, havia a sensação de que falar português não era nada difícil. Ele atende perfeitamente às minhas necessidades de aprendizado de idiomas e, se você não tiver certeza de como desenvolver sua prática, ele tem ótimos materiais, é um ótimo ouvinte e fará você falar. First lesson ever in Portuguese and we really enjoyed it! It was only a 30 minutes trial but feels like we already made progress. Can’t wait for the next lesson later this week. Yan is a fantastic, enthusiastic and encouraging teacher!! Obrigada 🙏

This was such a great lesson. We used a picture of Brazil as a springboard, and the conversation branched out so naturally into various topics and interests. The time went by easily and productively. In my lessons with Yan, I always feel like I'm firmly in the learning zone, feeling excited but not overwhelmed. I learned new vocabulary, some weak points that I can focus on, and in every class with Yan I discover that I know more than I thought I knew! (When I can translate that sentence into Portuguese I will have graduated lol) He's such a gracious teacher. Great!

I have now had three lessons with Yan and my high opinion of his teaching has only increased. He's outstanding. I am a very nervous learner, and when I get nervous I feel like I've forgotten everything I know. Yan is so friendly and gracious, and he speaks Portuguese so clearly, that it helps me to remember again. When I don't understand something, he enjoys the challenge of finding new ways to say things that are at my level. He never acts inconvenienced when I forget something or get something wrong. I would say it's clear that he genuinely enjoys teaching, and this really shows. My favourite aspect of today's lesson was that it had a definite structure and definite learning goals, but while it was happening, I felt completely free and spontaneous. Yan incorporated my own interests and ideas into the lesson seamlessly. I didn't realise until afterwards how much progress I had just made. Obrigado!
