Mattia

Mattia is a superb Italian teacher for precisely two reasons. First, he’s quite adept at the subtle dance involved in holding a conversation: He asks the right questions, born of genuine curiosity, and listens attentively, but also isn’t afraid to take the floor and put in his own two cents on a topic, thus giving the student the right mix of speaking and listening comprehension practice. And second, for those students like me who WANT to be corrected, his corrections are swift and merciless, catching every wayward auxiliary, faulty participle and missing preposition, so that the sentence falls correctly on Italian ears. After every lesson, not only do I have the satisfaction of having conveyed my true thoughts to a rapt audience, I also have the joy of having rendered those thoughts, thanks to Mattia, in authentic, kick-ass Italian. My Italian had reached a frustrating plateau. Then I found Mattia on iTalki and quickly realized I had found the ideal guide and coach for improving my Italian. - He knows the language, from fine points of grammar, to slang, to variations in regional dialects. - He adapts the lessons to my needs and interests. - He gives useful feedback with patience and good humor. - He’s very savvy about Italian culture, from trash TV to the classics, so his lessons are never dull. Thanks to his lessons, I can finally carry on a conversation in Italian. Even my American accent is tamed (somewhat). Time extremely well spent.
