веселиться - to have fun

Я серьёзный человек и мне сложно веселиться даже на праздниках. 

наверное - probably

Наверное, я пойду спать пораньше. Я очень устала. 

в кругу семьи - within the family circle

Мне нравится проводить время в кругу семьи на Новый год. 

собираться - to gather

На Новый год мы собираемся за большим столом. 

садиться - to sit down

Я самая первая сажусь за стол и ем. 

спрашивать - to ask

Я спрашиваю всех, что случилось. 

переживать - to worry

В школе я очень переживала за мои оценки. 

улыбаться - to smile

Дедушка всегда говорил мне больше улыбаться. 

довольно сложно - quite difficult

В маленьком городе довольно сложно найти хорошую работу. 

выглядеть - to appear

Она выглядит очень молодо для своего возраста. 

ошибаться - to make a mistake

Все люди ошибаются. Не ругайте себя за ошибки!

Раньше я смотрела разные передачи с моей бабушкой. 

дольше - longer

Я думал, что ехать до Москвы намного дольше. 

смеяться - to laugh

Если мне расскажут хорошую шутку, я буту смеяться.

appreciate it.
MONICA: No problem. I’m happy to help. What’s going on?
LAYLA: Oh you know, the usual. Should I take this new job? Or do I 
stick with my current one?
MONICA: Well, I think it’s time for a change, don’t you? They pay you late 
and you are unhappy.
LAYLA: Do you really think so?
MONICA: I know so. And I’ve been listening to you complain for over a 
year now. Trust me. Take the job. What do you have to lose?



LANGUAGE NOTES
• In formal conversation, giving advice is often suggested through modals: ought to/ 
should / could / If I were you. In informal conversations people tend to use words such 
as I think that/ I feel that/ in my opinion.
• Listen for the emphasis on I know so and Trust me. These common phrases can be 
used to convey both positive and negative emotions. “I know so” conveys a deep belief 
or certainty. “To know” shows more certainty than “to think.”
• Notice the use of command forms: Take the job. /Trust me./ Go for it! The command 
form can be used to gently persuade someone

C'est bientôt vendredi 13, pour certains ça porte bonheur pour d'autres ça porte malheur, mais pour être honnête j'ai longtemps été indifférente à cette date. Malheureusement, j'ai changé d'avis quand nous avons connu les attentats de Paris le vendredi 13 Novembre 2015, depuis j'y pense à chaque vendredi 13. Ce jour-là, je voulais aller à Paris après le travail, j'avais envoyé un message à une amie pour se retrouver et boire un verre ensemble, mais le temps que je me prépare j'ai manqué mon train, et finalement le train suivant me faisait arriver trop tard alors on a annulé. Une chance pour moi tandis que d'autres ont vécu le pire... Mais bon, changeons de sujet, récemment j'ai discuté avec quelques élèves des superstitions qu'ils ont et c'était super intéressant, honnêtement je croyais que je n’étais superstitieuse, c'est vrai, je n'ai jamais considéré que passer sous une échelle ou voir un chat noir pouvait être un mauvais signe mais quand même j’ai réalisé que je croise toujours les doigts quand on parle de malheur, que je n’accepterais jamais d’ouvrir un parapluie à l’intérieur d’une maison ou de laisser une baguette à l’envers, pas la peine de penser à prendre l’avion un vendredi 13 d'ailleurs quelques compagnies aériennes n'ont même pas de rangée numéro 13 dans leurs avions, et si un jour au hasard d'une promenade je venais à trouver un trèfle à quatre feuilles je pense que je sauterais de joie. Alors finalement peut-être que je suis un peu superstitieuse. D'ailleurs ça m'a fait un peu bizarre quand j'ai réalisé que cet épisode serait le numéro 13 sur le thème du vendredi 13 ! Aïe ! Mais il paraît que ça porte malheur d'être superstitieux alors j'ai décidé de publier quand même cet épisode !
